Looking for a scenic day trip from Shuzenji?
Dodo, who volunteered at Hostel Knot in April 2024, recommends heading to the Jōgasaki Coast on the eastern side of the Izu Peninsula for a beautiful coastal hike.
Just a couple of hours from Hostel Knot by public transport, this route combines dramatic rocky shores, peaceful woodland paths, and breathtaking ocean views. It’s a wonderful way to discover another side of Izu beyond the quiet streets of Shuzenji Onsen.

A Relaxing Hike with Ocean Views
Starting near Jōgasaki-Kaigan Station and heading toward Izu-Kōgen Station, the trail winds through green woodland before opening up to the rugged coastline.
Along the way, you’ll pass a lighthouse and two suspension bridges, with plenty of opportunities to stop, take photos, and enjoy the scenery.
The route is approximately 10 km long and can take around three hours of walking, depending on your pace and how often you stop.
While there are some uneven and rocky sections, it’s a rewarding option for travelers who want to enjoy nature without taking on a full-day mountain hike. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

Worth the Trip from Shuzenji
The views along the Jōgasaki Coast make this day trip well worth considering during your stay at Hostel Knot.
Take your time, breathe in the sea air, and enjoy the contrast between the lush forest and the deep blue Pacific Ocean.
If you’re staying in Shuzenji and looking to explore more of the Izu Peninsula, Dodo’s recommendation is a great place to start.
Whether you love hiking, photography, or simply discovering beautiful places off the usual tourist trail, the Jōgasaki Coast is a memorable addition to your Izu itinerary.
