People and people, people and places,
And who you are now, and who you are becoming.
At those quiet "knots of connection",
gently existing in between.
You don’t need to fill your schedule.
You don’t need to seek anything in particular.
Soak in the onsen, enjoy doing nothing,
Talk with someone who just happens to be sitting next to you.
Those simple moments may gently lead you
to the next step of your journey.
This is a "knot" along your journey.

Why Guests Choose Hostel Knot
Among the many onsen in Shuzenji Onsen,
there is a rare, free-flowing onsen that has long been part of everyday life for local residents.
Guests staying at Hostel Knot can
naturally share this space — without special tours or formal guidance — simply by staying here.
You’ll have access to a locals-only onsen, known as a “Jimosen”, a place normally reserved for the community.
This historic, free-flowing onsen retains its traditional atmosphere and features water temperatures exceeding 60°C.
It is a valuable onsen that is usually closed to visitors, but is available exclusively to Hostel Knot guests.

Information about shops and onsen,
the changing atmosphere of the town throughout the day —
because we live in Shuzenji and have long welcomed travelers here,
Hostel Knot has naturally become a place where unspoken, local knowledge gathers.
We don’t guide more than necessary,
but when you ask, we’re always able to give you a thoughtful answer.
We value this comfortable, respectful sense of distance.
To support your stay, we provide our own original maps and handmade guide booklets, always available for our guests.

From Shuzenji, bus routes connect easily to West Izu, South Izu, and East Izu.
Many of our guests use Shuzenji as a base for exploring the Izu Peninsula at a relaxed pace.
With three golf courses located nearby,
the area is also popular with travelers visiting for golf.
Shuzenji is well connected by scenic roads, making it an ideal starting point for motorcycle touring,
and a favorite stop for riders exploring Izu.
For those who wish to take their time and explore the peninsula more deeply,
some guests choose to stay three nights or longer.

Hostel Knot offers both dormitory-style rooms and private rooms.
We welcome solo travelers, long-term stays, and workations,
as well as private bookings and group use.
There is no single way to stay here.
As a town hostel, we have welcomed many different kinds of guests over the years,
and our flexibility is a natural result of that experience.
One option that is especially popular with families is the private use of our capsule-bed rooms, which allows parents and children to stay together comfortably.
We also receive a wide range of inquiries,
including student group stays, training camps, and event-related use.

Rating: 5 out of 5.I was planning to visit several places around the Izu Peninsula, so I was looking for a place that would be easy to stay at, even for just one night.
The location is easy to find, and getting around is simple. There’s just enough information available, so you never feel lost or unsure.
Compared to hotels right in the middle of major tourist spots, this place feels like somewhere you can pause and catch your breath along the journey.
If you enjoy an active style of travel, having a place like this really makes things easier.

Rating: 5 out of 5.When traveling alone, some places can feel a bit uncomfortable,
but I never felt that way here.
No one forces conversation on you,
yet you never feel isolated either.
There’s an atmosphere that makes you think,
“It’s okay to be here on my own.”
I think it’s a good place for anyone who wants to spend their time quietly.

Rating: 5 out of 5.To be honest, at first I wondered if a hostel might be too lively and geared toward younger travelers.
But in reality, there are quiet hours when you can relax,
the rooms are clean, and everything you need is properly provided.
Being able to stay overnight after a day of golf,
and move at an unhurried pace the next morning, has been very convenient.
It’s not as formal as a hotel,
yet more comfortable than a typical business hotel.
For those looking for something in between, this place is a great fit.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.We chose this place because we were traveling with a large group,
and didn’t want to be split up into separate rooms like we would be at a hotel.
It turned out to be the right choice.
With shared spaces available,
we could naturally gather and talk in the evenings
without feeling like we had to be overly careful.
It didn’t feel like, “It’s cheap, so it can’t be helped.”
It felt like a place where you can genuinely have a good time.
I think it’s very easy to use for trips with friends, clubs,
or any group traveling in larger numbers.

Rating: 5 out of 5.At first, I chose this place almost by chance. The balance between location and price was good. But after staying a second and third time, the reasons became clear.
The biggest reason is that “staying here itself never feels stressful.”
When I come to Izu now,
I plan my trip with this place as my base.

Rating: 5 out of 5.When looking for a place to stay in Japan, we’re honestly always a bit worried about how much English will be understood.
Here, Ryohey and Jamie took the time to explain everything clearly in English, so we never felt lost — from check-in through our entire stay. It was also great being able to casually ask about sightseeing or small questions along the way.
It wasn’t just that “English is spoken” here —
there was a real sense that they listened and cared,
which made us feel truly comfortable.

Rating: 5 out of 5.We’re considering relocating, and wanted to experience Izu from a living perspective first.
Staying here helped us understand things you don’t notice at tourist-oriented hotels — the feel of the town, the quiet nights, and the atmosphere in the morning.
It wasn’t flashy, but that sense of being close to everyday life left a strong impression.
For anyone unsure about whether Izu is the right place to live, we think staying somewhere like this is a very good first step.

Rating: 5 out of 5.Before our stay, we were honestly a little worried about whether our child might be too noisy and disturb others. But in reality, our child quickly felt comfortable and spent the time happily.
What really stayed with us was what they said at check-out: “I want to live in that secret base.”
As parents, it was a relief not having to constantly worry about keeping things overly quiet, and in the end, we were able to relax and enjoy the stay as well.
I think it’s a place where children can be themselves, and adults can feel at ease.

A sister property of Hostel Knot, opened on September 14, 2024.
Suitable for everyone from infants to adults,
Cotorimura offers a relaxed stay surrounded by Izus’s rich natural scenery. It can accommodate groups of up to 10 people, making it ideal for families and group trips.
Located just 10 minutes by car from Shuzenji Onsen, this is a private whole-house rental where you can also enjoy BBQ.
The building preserves the charm of a Showa-era Japanese home, a style that can no longer be recreated today.
Japanese guests often stay for a “countryside experience” with their families, while international travelers choose Cotorimura to experience an authentic sense of traditional Japan.
Please take a look at this property as well.
Izumore is the successor to Tabidara, a bilingual guidebook to the Izu Peninsula that we independently published in 2020.
Available in Japanese and English, Izumore features not only sightseeing and event information across the Izu Peninsula, but also restaurants, accommodations, and local experiences. We hope you will find it useful when planning your visit to Shuzenji or traveling around the Izu Peninsula.
